Tomorrow marks the third in a series of pilgrimages that I've been privileged to be involved in. Each year I go with trepidation and each year I return astounded by the things I've learned, the challenges we face and the friends I've made.
Saint Peter's Square at night is perhaps the most spectacular experience. The group of pilgrims happened upon the square at just the right time last year, when crowds were gone and the Pieta could be visible without craning your neck to see above the crowd.
Tomorrow I board another flight with new pilgrims, all of whom are seeking to better understand Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Clare. It is an honor to go once more with new eyes to see the places through new eyes.
So until I return, Buona Sera.
I write because I struggle to accept the things I cannot change.
